Pre-school Children
We are registered to accept the nursery grants to which your child will be entitled the term after their 3rd birthday.
The grant subsidies up to five sessions a week and the nursery will claim this grant on your behalf. This will in turn reduce your fees.
Children in the pre school group will be working on a well established educational program which has been examined and assessed by Ofsted, who in their last report said that 'children are confident and motivated to learn...and making good progress towards the Early Learning Goals.'
Our keyworker for the pre-school children has a BA Hons in Education and has achieved the highly regarded Early Years Professional Status.
We are working towards the same educational goals as children who attend mainstream schools for their grant sessions. However, we work with a much smaller staffing ratio. Schools will normally have a 1:13 staffing ratio whilst we operate with a 1:8 ratio. With our sessions being much longer and without the rigid drop off and pickup times of a school we can take a balanced approach to your child’s learning. You will be able to study our weekly planning which is overseen by one of the nurseries proprietors who is a qualified teacher with many years experience.
Children in a good nursery have the opportunity to develop many vital skills in a safe caring environment with staff whose only task is to facilitate their development. Our nursery nurses have no other job than to look after your child. With encouragement and praise children will develop.
The children will develop the self care skills in this group which develops their confidence - eating with a knife and fork, washing their own hands, putting on their clothes, putting on their own slippers all build confidence.
Toddlers
What will the children be doing? At the beginning of each session the children enjoy a period of free play when they can select from a large range of activities and toys.
Later the children will 'do their work' - these carefully planned activities meet the requirements of Early Years Foundation Stage.
Children will be encouraged to explore a wide range of activities. Through playing together they will develop co-operation and social skills.
Baby unit
We recognise that this more special group of children need a very special environment. We can provide a quiet, stimulating and supportive care in which your child can develop. The baby unit is separate from our main nursery and is an oasis of calm in our busy nursery setting. The babies enjoy a caring and relaxed atmosphere from our dedicated staff.
We appreciate you will want to have the closest contact with the member of staff who looks after your baby and we have established a home/nursery communication system which our mothers truly appreciate. We will follow your request with regard to sleep times/meals and general routine and you can phone the nursery nurse at any time to check on your baby’s day. We can provide special meals but find that most of our mothers bring their own food so they have control over their baby’s diet. If you have provided the meals you can check at the end of the day what food your child has eaten. When you decide your child is ready we can work with you to develop your baby’s diet. Our nursery nurses are the best resource we have to help your baby to learn how to communicate and their training and instincts are to respond in the most supportive way to your baby. Activities for babies are planned to meet the requirements of Early Years Foundations Stage.
We now have a professional and caring baby unit in our children's day nursery.
